The Care and Feeding of a Church
Service leaders: The Revs. Sydney Wilde and Dennis Daniel

As Spring comes to full bloom, First Church also seems to be blooming. The pews are filled with blossoming hope and energy. But, like a Spring garden, church communities need to be tended with care and perseverance. This Sunday we will explore some of the ways we can nurture our church into full health and luxuriant growth. Following the Service there will be a Soup Lunch and an opportunity to discuss the future of this congregation.

Taking Steps in an Inaccessible World
Worship Leader: Rev. Beth Williams

I was relieved when my mother declined an invitation to attend my ordination in October. At the time, she was wheelchair bound and living in a nursing home. "How would she ever get around in Hyde Park? " I wondered. How would she manage the stairs in my apartment building? How would she get where she needed to go in this church without lots of help from me? This was the impact of physical inaccessibility most familiar to me: a gradual decline in mobility and independence experienced by someone elderly, like my mother. Most familiar, that is, until this year. Exactly who and what is impacted by the accessibility limitations of our church building? What steps as a congregation must we continue to take to make our church home physically accessible to all?
