| March 11 Summoning our Sheroes Courageous women inspire us to reach for the stars. We all know such women and you may even be one yourself. Women's History Month is a wonderful excuse to learn about some of the courageous Unitarian, Universalist and Unitarian Universalist women who have paved the way for so many of us and whose shoulders we stand on. Come out and celebrate these women along with the women in your life, in our congregation and in our movement and denomination. Qiyamah A. Rahman is in her final year in the Modified Residency Program at Meadville Lombard Theological School. She recently relocated to Chicago to finish her program since enrolling in 2003. As a Community Minister in formation she is passionate about interfaith social justice. She is a member at The UU Church of Charlotte. Qiyamah previously served as the District Executive for the Thomas Jefferson District.. She has also served on the UU Women's Federation Board. Qiyamah has a masters in social work and a bachelor's in education from the University of Michigan. She will receive a doctorate from Clark Atlanta University in May, 2007. She is excited about beginning both her ministerial and academic careers in Cape Town, South Africa in January, 2008 where she will move after meeting with the MFC in December, 2007 and following her ordination the same month. Qiyamah has three adult children, Libra, Kaleema and Muhammad, and a grandson, Brandon. |
| March 18 Embracing Change Change is a condition of life which is sometimes easy and sometimes difficult and threatening. How do we learn to embrace and grow from change instead of fearing it? Susan Scrimshaw and her husband Allan Stern recently left Chicago, and First Unitarian, for Boston. Susan is President of Simmons College, and is on the Board of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. She frequently spoke from our pulpit during her time in Chicago. She and Allan are delighted to be back among us this Sunday. |

March 25, Breathing Human, Merely Being: Four days after the spring equinox, with its gift of growing daylight, we celebrate the momentary balance of light and dark, and nature's balance between breathing in and breathing out. How do we take in and honor the wisdom of that balance? Rev. Nina Grey is the transitional leader and a participant in the Earth-Based
Spirituality Group. She has contemplated the human juggling act of giving
and receiving for many years, over and over again seeking, losing and
finding again her own healthy times of balance, of breathing in inspiration
and breathing out acts of love and care in the world. Today we reflect
on nature's lessons for our lives. |
