The Courage of Our Convictions

Laura Horton

Over 450 years ago, theologian Michael Servetus was executed because he went public with his belief that there was no Biblical justification for the doctrine of the Trinity. Today we honor his story and reflect on its meaning for our lives today.

This year Laura Horton is serving the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rock Valley in Rockton, IL. She lives with her partner John and cat Pippin in Oak Park. Laura graduated from Meadville Lombard Theological School in June 2005. She will be ordained by her congregation on November 20, 2005.

This Sunday Rev. Nina Grey will be preaching at her former congregation, the Unitarian Society of Germantown, in Philadelphia, as that congregation celebrates the 140th anniversary of their founding.

From Where Comes Our Help?

This morning we reflect on our liberal faith's resources in times of loss and deep sorrow. What does Unitarian Universalism offer to those who face their death, the loss of loved ones, or other profound losses?

Thanks Be For These:
A Thanksgiving Service For All Ages

Thanksgiving begins our holiday season. Join together in a celebration both joyful and thoughtful as, in the midst of the busyness of life, its joys and its sorrows, we set aside this time for gratitude. In word and song, ritual and silence, we give thanks for life and life's gifts. Congregation and choir provide our traditional and a bit of less traditional singing. We will share bread, reflecting the universality of grain as a staff of life. If you are able to contribute one or more loaves of home made bread for this service, please contact Rev. Nina Grey.

This service will also include an ingathering of new members. If you wish to join the church, contact Rev. Nina Grey.

The Marginal God

Bill Neeley

The dialogue between science and religion seems to center these days on the reality of evolution and the belief in intelligent design. What does liberal religion have to say in this dialogue, and how can we best be heard?

Bill Neely is a fourth-year seminarian at Meadville Lombard Theological School. He recently finished a Summer Minister position at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford, IL and served last year as the Hallman Ministerial Intern at Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, MN. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Shannon, and their beloved cat, Pesty.
