September 4 God and Labor: Speaker: Tim Yaeger The Judeo-Christian tradition is rooted in the struggle of working people for justice. According to Hebrew scriptures, it is God Himself who instigates history's first labor walkout. And it is God who pens the first legislation giving workers a day off each week. And according to Christian tradition, when God takes human form, He becomes an itinerant Carpenter who calls for the forgiveness of debts and a re-distribution of wealth. So what does that mean for 21st century progressives, and where do we go from here? Tim Yeager is the Financial Secretary/Treasurer of UAW Local 2320, which represents nearly 4,000 workers in non-profit agencies across the country. He is an Episcopalian and serves as the Secretary of the Peace and Justice Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. He is also a member of the National Executive Board of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, and of the National Committee of the Communist Party USA. |

September 11 Rev. Nina D. Grey With Glad Jubilation: Our Ingathering Water Ceremony All are invited to join in a joyful multigenerational re-gathering of our faith community, in our Annual Water Ceremony. We will offer real and metaphorical water from some of the lakes, streams, rivers, oceans, water falls and water taps of our summer journeys and share some of the ways our summer life has deepened, strengthened, challenged and graced our lives. As we offer our gifts of water to the bowl of our common life, well share on several themes. Possible themes are: making new connections, the strength of love, experiences of harmony and oneness, and times of hope and celebration. If you have ideas for themes youd like to contribute, be in touch with one of the members of the Water Ceremony Planning Group: Rev. Nina Grey, Danielle Gerrior, Susan Scrimshaw and Carrie Hedges. During the service, we will welcome our new Director of Religious Education, Danielle Gerrior, and our Social Hour will be both a celebration of our re-gathering and of our welcome to Danielle. |

September 18 Rev. Nina D. Grey Peace Roads Lao Tse wrote about peace, that the foundation for peace in the world is peace between neighbors, peace in the home, and peace in the heart. In these days of wars, continuing occupations, and terrorism, what are some clues about traveling toward peace? |

Rev. Nina D. Grey For Life: Some Reflections on Morality in a Complex Age Soon the senate will vote on whether to confirm John Roberts as the newest Supreme Court Justice. This nomination, and other current events have highlighted cultural and religious differences in thinking about morality. Well take this morning as an opportunity to reflect on some of these differences.
