February 6 Multiracial Unity Dr. Finley C. Campbell, Dr. Finley C. Campbell has a BA degree from Morehouse College (1956), an MA from Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University 1958) and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago, (1969). He has had a variety of preaching experiences as an ordained Baptist Minister, as a layperson speaking on social justice issues, at demonstrations and as a worship associate here at First Unitarian Church. Dr. Campbell's education has been centered on history, anti-racism, and English and American literature, with an emphasis on sociopolitical themes. Presently, he is chair of our Social Justice Council and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship.

February 13 The Worst Thing About Liberals Rev. David Weissbard, Senior Minister This sermon is a response to the post-election malaise experienced by many (but not all) liberals who discovered that they (we) were out of touch with a large segment of our nation, and that our best efforts had not brought success. Rev. Weissbard, who was raised UU, is in his 26th year as Senior Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford, his 39th year of ministry. Rev. Weissbard is a graduate of the St. Lawrence University and the final graduate of its Theological School. Dave previously served churches in Bedford, MA and Fairfax, VA. He has been an active leader in the UUA and in social justice issues in Rockford. For 24 years, he has been host/producer of Fusion, a Sunday morning TV program broadcast on WIFR-TV, the local CBS affiliate.

February 20 What Do We Tell the Children? Rev. Dr. John Tolley, Dean of Students Living in the realities of the New World Order demands that we not only speak truth in love to our children, but face and quell our own fears. Rev. Dr. John Tolley also teaches arts of ministry in religious art and aesthetics. Before coming to Meadville Lombard, Rev. Tolley served congregations for twenty-two years in Indiana, Tennessee, New Jersey, and Connecticut. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Theater from New York University and has taught in that discipline at NYU, City University of New York, and Goshen College in Indiana. John's portfolio includes over seventy dramatic productions and publications on the topics of religious education, religious art and gay/lesbian issues. |

February 27 Building Beloved Community Mr. Ed Loomis, seminarian This sermon is a look at the importance of a healthy community and how to sustain one. Mr. Loomis retired in 2003 from a long career with the State of Michigan where he held a variety of positions including work in the area of mental health. Ed then moved from East Lansing, Michigan to Hyde Park to attend Meadville Lombard, where he is in his second year of study to become a parish minister |
