Rev. Nina D. Grey
"Oh, Say, Can You See?"
Prophets who challenge prevailing political winds and power dynamics are, I
suggest, some of the true patriots.
Another word for prophets is seers. We are invited to think about the familiar
beginning of our national anthem
in a slightly different way, on this, the annual commemoration of our nation's
independence. We will ask some
questions about what it might take to be able to "see", and what the
costs might be of not seeing.

Ed Loomis
"It's A Calling"
A regular attender of worship at First Unitarian Church, Ed Loomis has completed
his first year at
Meadville/Lombard Theological School. This morning he will reflect with us on
what it is that draws him
toward Unitarian Universalist ministry.
Until last year Ed Loomis lived and worked in Michigan. Ed retired in
2003 and moved from East Lansing,
Michigan to Hyde Park to prepare for the parish ministry at Meadville/Lombard.
This summer he is enrolled in
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.
Ed served as a Worship
Associate at a spring worship service at First. He will be returning to his
East Lansing congregation to lead the
July 4 service. We are pleased to welcome Ed to our pulpit.

Kathleen Green
"Salvation Through Love"
Our Unitarian and Universalist leaders of the past preached of a boundless
love that was to be shared with all of
humankind. The essence of love is what makes life worth living. Are we, today,
carrying on that message?
While the idea of universal salvation isn't something we either believe in anymore,
or talk about much these
days, perhaps we can give new meaning to that idea, as this Sunday we explore
the possibility of salvation for
all through universal love.
Kathleen Green has completed her first year of study at Meadville-Lombard
Theological School, where she is
pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. She and her husband Mitchell and son Adam
moved to Chicago from
Connecticut, just one year ago. The Greens feel at home at First Unitarian and
are involved in various activities
in the life of the church. Kathleen also enjoys music, theater, knitting, and
looks forward to working as a parish
minister in the future.

Nancy McDonald
"A New and Familiar Voice"
Every day we move through a swarm of advice-ridden voices. The media, our bosses,
our leaders, and certainly
our loved ones are full of advice concerning the kind of people we should be
and the kind of decisions we
should make. This sermon will look at the essential practice of checking in
with the most important voice of all,
your own.
Nancy McDonald is a recent graduate of Meadville Lombard theological
school. During her tenure at Meadville
Lombard, she served as Intern and Summer Minister at the Unitarian Universalist
Church in Rockford,
Sabbatical Minister at the Universalist Unitarian Church in Joliet, and Young
Adult Worship Coordinator at the
2003 UUA General Assembly. She was recently called to serve as the settled Parish
Minister of the Bull Run
Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Manassas, Virginia and will begin her
minsitry there in just a few weeks.
