Choir will sing.
How might the belief that there is a holy center in each person affect our senses of individuality and community? This sermon will explore how acting out of those individual sacred centers as well as trying to see them in other people can be a religious act that helps to create a whole and holy community.
Bill Neely is a member of the Unitarian Church of Norfolk VA who has just finished his first year at Meadville Lombard Theological School. He lives in Hyde Park with his partner Shannon. He and his wife worked with non-profit animal rights organizations before coming to Chicago. Currently, Bill is working at Montgomery Place as a clinical Pastoral Education intern.

Bruce Russell-Jayne has just completed his second year at Meadville Lombard Theological School. He and his wife, Cece, are from Chattanooga TN where Bruce was an engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority for 25 years. The Russell-Jaynes were very active in the UU church in Chattanooga. Bruce was an advisor for our Junior High Youth this year, and will start an internship at the North Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Deerfield in August.

"Laughter as Revolution"

How revolutions are brought about when people recognize how ridiculous an oppressive system is, for it is through laughter that new possibilities are revealed.
Rev. Viola Moore is the Minister Emerita of the Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Stevensville, MI, where she served as minister for seven years. She has served parishes in Vermont, New York, Indiana, and Illinois. She is a graduate of Boston University and the Chicago Theological Seminary. Viola was married to Dean Robert S. Moore for 59 years. Three of her four children are alumni of the Chicago Children's Choir. Viola has been a member of First Church since 1956, and has served on every board and committee over the years.

The service explores the Christian origins of Unitarianism, specifically its origins in the Second Christian Revolution. This means there will be major references to the positive contributions which Christianity and the connection of Christianity made to revolutionary egalitarian monotheism.
Finley Campbell is an ordained Baptist minister, currently considered a lay minister. He is a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church and First Unitarian Church. He first encountered Unitarianism in Atlanta, GA, and visited First Unitarian beginning in 1958 as a student at the University of Chicago. He has been active in our church since 1992.
