Are You REALLY Ready for Change?
New Year brings resolutions for change - even though most of us recognize that we lapse as often as we succeed. Should we just give up the pretense of intent to change? I will draw on experiences with a special program, "Changing for Good" to consider the ways that adults do manage to create lasting changes. How can we enlist others to help us in our change efforts? What can we do to support those who are trying to modify their lives?

One, Two, Three, Four ...
When my granddaughter, Hannah, was younger, she used to love to play hide and seek. When very young, it was just hiding your eyes, then revealing them and saying "peek a boo". Later it was me or Hannah counting to ten while the other one hid, and then calling out, "ready or not, here I come" and looking all over to find where the other was hiding. Today we are reflecting on the mystery, excitement, joy and sometimes the difficulty and even scariness of exploring hidden realities.

"Where the Dream Still Lives"
Rev. Dr. Marlene R. Walker
Forty years after Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech, where is his dream still alive? Where can we find or bring it in to being? In that same year King published Strength to Love - a collection of his sermons that reveal much of the theology that led King to his commitments. How can these help us today find our own strength to love in this uncertain and turbulent time?

Here Is The Church
I can see that my mind is on childhood games as I think ahead to January's sermons. Do you remember the old rhyme? Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the door and let out the people? As I write, we are contemplating the beginning of our spire demolition/bell tower restoration. We are looking forward to signing a contract, which should be followed, step by step, with getting a permit, seeing the scaffolding go up, and so on. Building changes always take longer than we think they will. And they always evoke feelings and questions. Today we think about a big question: What is the church that is here?
