The Turning of the Wheel
Sermon: Rev. Marlene R. Walker
All Souls Day, All Saints Day, Halloween, Dia de los Muertes, Samhain - all of these holidays, celebrations and customs that are observed at this time of the year speak to us of the same things. Our human need to honor the past and those whose lives we remember, to look forward to what lies ahead in the future and to honor the turning of the wheel of life. We add in a lot of fun - scary costumes and masks, trick or treat, goodies to eat, jack-o-lanterns and candles to make the really scary more approachable and less formidable. This service will use the many different customs and rituals of this week to do just that. Children of all ages are invited to bring costumes and masks as we turn the wheel of life together.

When Art is Truth and Beauty
Revs. Carolyn and Tom Owen-Towle
We are as inexorably drawn to natural beauty as we are to water. There is a spiritual thirst for the goodness and truth that come from nature and timeless works of art. We are impoverished without our acknowledgment of them in our lives.
We welcome the Rev. Carolyn Owen-Towle, Minister Emerita of First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego to our pulpit this morning. Carolyn will explore with us the theme "When Art is Truth and Beauty". She and her husband, Tom Owen-Towle, Minister Emeritus, concluded their fulltime ministry last June. They are currently Ministers-in-Residence at Meadville Lombard for the fall semester. They will lead us in congregational singing.
