Reflections on Nurturing Mother's Day Sunday
Our culture associates nurturing with mothers and grandmothers, but it has always been much broader than that. This sermon explores the concept of nurturing within American culture, examines the broadening of the concept as parenting roles and patterns have changed, as our community relationships are changing, and as leadership styles also reflect cultural changes.
Susan Scrimshaw is a medical anthropologist who is Dean of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. She was reared in Guatemala, and works on health issues internationally and with underserved U.S. populations. A frequent speaker at UU churches, she is a seventh-generation Unitarian, and enjoys singing in our choir.

We Gather Together
We gather together for worship and meetings. Congregational meetings are times we set aside for sacred deliberation in the spirit of our fifth Unitarian Universalist principle, which affirms and promotes the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process in our congregations and in society. This service reflects on the place conversation and deliberation have in our religious life.
Annual Meeting following the service.

What Is So Important About Peace?
Memorial Day Sunday
This Sunday, we remember those who sacrificed in war, for the hope of a larger vision, in a candlelighting of remembrance. At the same time, and most of all, we reflect on what peace brings to and makes possible for human life and the lives of all beings. We recall our own urgent desires for peace of heart and in the world, and we think about the greater possibilities that peace brings for children and their families and for the health of all of us.
