Canvass Sunday
This Learning, Loving Congregation
Build Our Future, Change the World

Gather together for our annual Canvass Service followed by the First Unitarian Canvass Luncheon. Our young people will also have a special program.

At our service this morning we will think together about the deepest meanings and purposes of our life together. What are we as a religious community in our times? What shall we be together? How shall we support our future?

Then we will join together in a festive community meal, learn more about our vision and hopes for the future and what kind of commitment we are beckoned to make. Please bring your pledge card, which came in the canvass brochure, to the luncheon.

Sermon: Gordon Oliver, Guest Minister
Worship Co-Leader: Rev. Dr. Marlene Walker

Connecting In Friendship

Gordon Oliver has recently been given a permanent appointment as minister in the Cape Town, South Africa Church which he joined in 1989. Since age 19 Gordon has been actively involved in the local government politics in Cape Town as an opponent of the Apartheid regime. He was elected Deputy Mayor of Cape Town in 1987 and in 1989 became Mayor of the City. Gordon had the privilege of receiving Nelson Mandela in the City Hall on the day of his release from prison on 11th Feb 1990 where Nelson made his first public address to the nation.

Gordon Oliver will be the Minister-In-Residence at Meadville/Lombard Theological School for the spring quarter of 2002. We are pleased to welcome him to our pulpit.

Sermon: Rev. Nina Grey

Feeding Our Spirits

In a faith which draws from many paths for our inspiration, how do we feed our spirits? How can we nurture the many and also keep a sense of the unity of us all?

Inner and Outer Life

For some, spiritual connection comes from silence, for some it comes in solitude and aloneness, for some it is awakened by relationship with all of nature. Is it truly spiritual if it only involves inner feeling? Does our faith call us to express our spiritual sensibility by responding to life's challenges and opportunities? What do you believe about the relationship of spiritual life and prophetic living?
