On Reason and Wonder
The world revealed to us by the methods of science often seems vast and impersonal. Yet the phenomena science has uncovered are undeniably real. How can we seek spiritual meaning and depth in a natural world?
Paul Ricker will explore with us a way of addressing these concerns without recourse to the supernatural and show how one might construct a spiritually satisfying life from the unfettered curiosity, close observation and even-tempered contemplation that are essential to science.
During the Time for All Ages, Rev. Marlene will be introducing the RE Mitten Tree.

On Gifts and Giving
Today we are gifted by a rich diversity of music as the choir sings holiday carols from many lands. Rev. Nina Grey will offer a homily On Gifts and Giving, as we think about what it means to be generous to ourselves, our families, our church and our communities.
We also honor Wallace Rusterholtz, longtime member, who has gifted our congregational life.

Hospitality In These Times
Rev. Nina Grey will reflect on the importance and the challenges of hospitality in light of holiday stories. She contemplates these themes for these times, in which fear, religious differences and economic circumstances complicate an already profound need to welcome in strangers.

Annual RE Holiday Pageant. "Would You Like To Hold The Baby".
This multigenerational pageant has been created by UU Joyce Poley who created the pageant we enjoyed last year - "The Spirit of the Christmas Tree". The choir has been rehearsing new music for the pageant and our angels, shepherds and wise men will be returning to help us celebrate the Spirit of the Season.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
Join us for our annual joyful Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. We shall welcome in the joyful holiday with carols, meditation, readings, and our traditional candlelightings. As the sanctuary grows dark, with all the lights extinguished, we will fill the sacred room with the light of candles. The Chicago Children's Choir fills our senses with delight as they sing from their diverse repertoire of holiday music. This is a service for all ages.

A Kwanzaa Service of Affirmation
We reflect on the meaning of Kwanzaa, and the symbols of this important African American cultural affirmation which lasts for eight days, from the day after Christmas until the New Year. We light the candles of the Kinara, and ponder the meanings of the seven principles and the artifacts of Kwanzaa. If you wish to help create this service, contact Finley Campbell, chair of the Worship and Music Committee.
