How is the new welfare system working? The Southside Committee for Welfare Reform invites you to a town meeting, Monday, January 25, 1999, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church located at 55th and Woodlawn to find out for yourself. Speakers include John Bouman of National Clearing House for Legal Services, State Representative Barbara Flynn Currie and State Senator Barack Obama. Discussion topics cover the basic structure of th new law addressing the many people threatenned with being eliminated from the welfare rolls by July 1999; Illinois Department of Human Service policies with respect to work hours and sanctions; as well as the level of support available for items like child care, jobs and transportation.
