Our Unitarian Organizing Principles

First Unitarian Church of Chicago

As a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association, we join over a thousand congregations across the continent in affirming our liberal religious principles.

The congregation itself makes all major decisions relating to the church, as a whole body. The elected Board of Trustees establishes the policies necessary for the conduct of the programs and concerns of the Society.

The church's activities are organized into three councils:
  • The Religious Education Council helps develop and oversee the church's religious education programming for both children and adults
  • The Social Justice Council helps facilitate and support our individual and collective responses to community and justice concerns
  • The Program Council helps coordinate all other programs of the congregation
