Unitarian Universalism has always
placed an importance on "life span" religious education. This means that we
acknowledge that religious education important not only for the children and youth of our
congregation, but also for our adults. If we are to remain a vital, interested and
interesting people, prepared to reach out to the challenges of life, we must educate
ourselves in every way we can. In the next coming months, you will see an increase of
activity in the planning of an adult religious education program for First Unitarian
Church of Chicago. I will be a part of this planning process. Please read below to find
out about an initial endeavor in adult religious education. Adult R.E. Program News: Adult R.E. Workshop - Coping with the Stresses of Today: Are you feeling dazed and confused by the pace of modern life? Are you being faced with issues for which you feel unprepared, things like: the speed and implications of technological advances, a potential millennium crisis, less human contact in your life, "techno" warfare, being part of the sandwich generation? Do you find yourself worrying more and enjoying life less? Then come to Coping with the Stresses of Today, an adult religious education workshop, where you will hear three perspectives on how to cope with the phenomenon of modern day life and find a safe space to discuss your concerns. This workshop will be co-facilitated by Rev. David Arksey, Rev. Beth Williams, and Michael Donner. It will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the V.O.V. Gallery. At the end of the workshop we will explore the possibility of continuing our discussion in the form of an ongoing support group facilitated by Rev. Beth Williams and Michael Donner. Childrens R.E. Program News One of the "rites" of the Unitarian Universalism is to dedicate its children to life and to the life of its church communities. It is time of ceremony where parents and families give thanks for the gift of their children, and, with their Unitarian Universalist congregation, pledge to support these children in their religious journies. Our congregation will be conducting a Ceremony of Child Dedication during our intergenerational worship service on Mothers Day, Sunday May 9. If you have not yet dedicated your child in a Unitarian Universalist faith community, and would like to do so at our Mothers Day Child Dedication Ceremony, or if you have any questions regarding the dedication of children, please contact Rev. Beth Williams at (773) 324-4100 before May 2, 1999.
