Now that Dennis and I are settled in and feeling at home, we are beginning to make pastoral calls. Over the next few months we will try to visit as many of you who are house-bound as is possible. However, it is going to take awhile, and we need your help. Where to start?

Please, let us know if you would like a visit. Let us know if you know of someone who would like a visit. Please contact us if you are ill or know of someone who is ill. Let us know when you are going into the hospital or if you know someone going into the hospital. It is a well kept secret that ministers cannot read minds. We need spies, and people who are willing to let us minister to them, by telling us when they have a need.

If you are not house-bound but would like to talk to us, please call for an appointment.

Sydney's office hours are Monday from 11 am to 3 pm.

Dennis' office hours are Thursday from 11 am to 3 pm.

One of us will be in the church office from 11 am to 2 pm on Wednesday

2 pm on Wednesdays we will both be in staff meetings.

Almost any time that one of us is in the church office (773-324-4100), the other can be reached at our home study. Don't hesitate to call (773-643-3019).

While we are with you, we will be working with David Arksey and several members of First Church to form a Caring Committee. The members of this committee will be our eyes and ears and hands, augmenting the professional ministry by providing a lay ministry of service and caring. Some people have agreed to provide rides to the doctor's office or hospital. Others have offered to help with shopping. Some will deliver a meal when needed or babysit in an emergency. Others will send cards or make phone calls to check on how people are doing. And a few will make home or hospital calls in addition to those made by us.

Looking forward to getting to know you,

Sydney

When to call the ministers:

When you need a friendly ear to talk to
When you discover you are pregnant
When you have been arrested
When someone in your family is very ill
When you have lost your job
When you know of someone in the church who is in need
When you will be going into the hospital
When there has been a death in the family
When you are lonely
When you would like us to attend a wake or a funeral
When your child is having problems
When you just want to get to know us
When you have religious or spiritual perplexities
When you have an idea you would like to see the church pursue
When you have good news to celebrate
