Peace
and Justice Workshop We invite members of your church to attend a series of workshops to be held January 12-February 16 at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Park Forest early next year. Entitled "In Our Hands: A Peace and Social Justice Program," the six-week series is based on a curriculum for adults provided by the UUA-with some additions of our own. If more information is needed call Pam Godbout 708/481-9019 or Nancy Orlinsky at 708/481-8584. Interweave Convo 99 in Atlanta The fifteenth annual continental convocation of Interweave (Unitarian Universalists for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns, and allies) will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, February 26-28, 1999. Sessions will be conducted at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta. The theme of Convo 99 is "Let Your UU Light Shine." The goals of the gathering are to identify strategies for increasing visibility and outreach of the Unitarian Universalist Association and individual societies to the G/L/B/T community, increase participation of G/L/B/T UUs in established church activities, and continuing the mobilization of the UUA to combat activities of the religious right. Particular emphasis is given to the importance of UU outreach in small and middle-sized cities. The keynote speaker will be Urvashi Vaid, Director of the Policy Institute of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Workshops will deal with various topics relating to denominational growth and individual development, and there will be ample opportunities for networking and establishing friendships. A separate program for youth will be conducted at the First Existentialist Congregation, a primarily lesbian UU congregation in Atlanta. The "Fulfilling the Promise" Committee of the UUA, which is developing a long-range plan for the denomination, will also be meeting in Atlanta. Members of the committee, including UUA president John Buehrens, will participate in several segments of the Convocation.
