At a special ceremony in December to honor volunteers at the Chicago Cultural Center, Chuck Staples received the award for "Docent of the Year." Chuck has served as a volunteer at the Cultural Center since 1994.

We congratulate Aneesah Ali and Jim Proctor on their recent marriage.

Please welcome two new additions to the church staff. Cecilia Briscoe is our new Administrative Assistant. She will be working afternoons and evenings on weekdays and all day on Saturday. Also, Mike Green, our Assistant Custodian, has taken a one month leave of absence. Eric Marshall has taken over his duties while he is gone.

Deaths

Our sympathies go to Chuck Staples, whose younger sister, Jeanne Staples Busch, died on January 4. Mrs. Busch had been a librarian and developed and operated an excellent antiquarian bookstore in Geneva, NY, until recently.

We send our support and love to Irene Krull, whose father passed away just two days before his 90th birthday. Irene reports that her father died peacefully with his wife at his side. Thus, in mid-January, Irene found herself flying to North Dakota for a funeral rather than a birthday.

Long-time friend of our church Rosalia Isaacs died on Dec. 22 in Berkeley, CA. Mrs. Isaacs was active in community groups in Hyde Park for many years. During the 1960s she worked in our church office. She is survived by her daughter Jane Fantel and her son Robert Eller-Isaacs. Both Jane and Rob were members of the Chicago Children's Choir, and Rob went on to become a Unitarian Universalist minister.
