First Unitarian Young Adults and Campus Ministry Service and Fellowship Event
The First Unitarian Fellowship of Young Adults and First Unitarian Campus Ministry are co-organizing an opportunity to volunteer with the Night Ministry, a non-denominational organization that provides health and social services to homeless youth and adults throughout Chicago . We will be preparing and serving a meal for homeless and hungry individuals alongside the Nigh Ministry’s Health and Outreach Bus at their South Shore service location. Due to the Night Ministry’s schedule, we’ll meet on Friday January 15th , 2010 at 7:00 PM instead of our usual third Sunday time. We’ll meet at First Unitarian Church , gather and prepare food, and then drive together to the Night Ministry site in South Shore to serve the food to the hungry. We should return to Hyde Park around 11pm or so. If you are interested in joining us for this fellowship and service event, please email the YA and CM organizers at

Mission Statement: We, the First Unitarian Fellowship of Young Adults and the First Unitarian Campus Ministry (YA and CM) groups at First Unitarian Society of Chicago, exist to serve religious liberal young adults, between the ages of 18-35. The YA and CM group seeks to establish an egalitarian community that focuses on creating a safe space for spiritual growth, vibrant worship, and authentic fellowship.
Soulful Sundown Worship: YA and CM jointly host a young adult worship service once a month on the FIRST Sunday at 6pm. We meet at Hull Chapel for worship in the round, incorporating as many voices and ways of worshiping as we are able. A typical Soulful Sundown involves a chalice lighting, to open our worship in the Unitarian Universalist tradition, followed by readings, songs, a prayer, a reflection time, a brief sermon, and other rituals that involve all parts of the sensory experience. We have enjoyed a sparkling cider "communion," candle-lighting, and a question-and-answer exploration called "Stand Up, Sit Down." We invite anyone in the group to help plan worship, and anyone present is welcome to participate in readings or other parts of the service. Every Soulful Sundown concludes with snacks and fellowship.
Other Activities: The YA and CM groups each sponsor social activities for their members once a month on the THIRD Sunday at 6pm. We meet at Hull Chapel for potlucks, games, or to carpool or walk to local attractions such as bowling or movies. We participate in community service, like serving food with the Night Ministry. We believe that fun and fellowship are just as important as worship in supporting our ministry and our members. We have also been a part of church-wide activities, including making the decorations for the annual Unity Party.
