The Crypt

The Burial Crypt

Beneath the sanctuary and the VOV Gallery, the church houses a Crypt (columbarium) with niches for placement of cinerary urns.  At the bottom on a winding staircase leading down from the Sanctuary is a serene space with a small chapel and bays of niches. The niches are set in the stone walls and fronted with dark veined marble. Inscriptions of names and date may be cut directly into the marble facing of the niche.

Space in the Crypt is offered to the public on the same terms as columbariums in the Chicago area. Niches come in various sizes, with larger spaces suitable for up to 6 urns.

Visits to the Crypt may be made weekdays 10 am to 4 pm and Sundays after 11:30 am to 2 pm or on appointment. The Crypt is not wheelchair accessible.

The Church is incorporated, and the Crypt funds are segregated into a special trust to assure permanent care of the space.
