Hull Chapel
Founded
in 1836, First Unitarian Society dedicated its first building in 1841
where the Picasso statue now stands in the Civic Center in downtown
Chicago. Following the growth of the city, the congregation gradually
moved south, and built a mission-outreach chapel near the University
of Chicago campus in 1897.
The photo at right shows that chapel, named for long-time church
trustee Morton B. Hull and his wife Eudora Denison Hull. The
dedication of Hull chapel was held on June 6, 1897, almost exactly
one hundred years ago.
The congregation as a whole officially moved to this site in
1909, and dedicated our current sanctuary in 1931. Hull Chapel, now
an extension off the main sanctuary, is still being used today. Below
is a photo of how it looks currently.
